The world chess champion Magnus Carlsen's Play Magnus has developed three chess apps for iOS, Android and web. The app suite has been dowloaded over 5 million times and has over 35 000 daily active users.
I spent six months at Play Magnus AS as the main UX designer for the apps and the website. I worked on enhancing the user experience and refreshing the user interface in the Play Magnus app. One of the goals was to uncover and increase in-app sales, as well as improve monetization to enhance user engagement in the apps. I mapped out user journeys and conducted user surveys globally. Heatmaps and data were collected from Facebook, Google Analytics, Apple Store, and Google Play. Based on this information, the graphic designer and I, made design changes, created new game flows, improved navigation, and updated the in-app store.
A good and complete product. Stylish expression, and the Jackpot feeling of victory is colorful enough; effects, solutions and layout are excellent and appropriate, along with anecdotes, and advice and encouragement along the way gives the app a significant opportunity to get hooked even without previous experience. The second project involved implementing Play Magnus Memberships. In this role, I designed the purchase flow the website, and I created new user profile and membership pages. I also engaged in creating marketing material to generate membership sales.
